Background and context

To address the need for more inclusive, patient-centered care in organ and tissue donation and transplantation (OTDT), Canadian Blood Services, Egale Canada and the University of Manitoba have partnered to develop an educational curriculum for healthcare professionals.

Led by Dr. Murdoch Leeies, this free virtual curriculum is designed to strengthen healthcare teams’ understanding and confidence in caring for 2SLGBTQI patients and their families.

The interactive curriculum includes five thoughtfully designed modules which provide essential foundational knowledge about sexual orientation and gender identity and offer real-world, scenario-based learning focused on living donation, deceased donation and transplantation.

Developed with the support of Egale, Canada’s leading organization for 2SLGBTQI advocacy, the curriculum adheres to the highest standards of inclusivity and educational excellence. It will be available in both English and French, offering healthcare teams accessible, community-informed training that supports meaningful and equitable care.
