Module 4: Donor Management
Learning objectives:
- Describe investigations required to ensure medical suitability of organs recovered for transplantation. Including the importance of routine and ongoing investigations, assessment for potential infections and organ specific interventions to help determine medical suitability.
- Discuss the pathophysiology behind hemodynamic instability in the organ donor
- Identify appropriate blood pressure targets for potential donors
- Develop an approach to manage hypovolemic shock, distributive shock and left ventricular dysfunction in the potential organ donor
- Understand how to implement the most current Canadian guidelines for medical management of the neurologically deceased organ donor.
This curriculum is under review for accreditation by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada and is approved by Dalhousie University.
This module has been developed by Canadian Blood Services in collaboration with the organ donation organizations in Canada, the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, and many generous volunteers from the Canadian Critical Care community.
