Learning Objectives

1.  To review the indications for and efficacy of HLA selected platelet transfusions.
2.  To review the testing methodology for HLA and HPA antigens at Canadian Blood Services and understand the requirement for antibody testing every 3 months for recipients. 
3.  To review how to order HLA or HPA selected platelet products from Canadian Blood Services and to learn what to expect for the average recipient based on national data.

The LearnTransfusion series is the seminar component of the Areas of Focused Competency (AFC)-Diploma Program in Transfusion Medicine. The series, organized by Canadian Blood Services is also open to all practitioners in the field of Transfusion Medicine. Through a series of regular webinars, trainees and practitioners are exposed to various scientific, technical and clinical aspects of transfusion medicine.
