Canadian Blood Services’ newly announced Surveillance and Discovery Laboratory (SDL) has been selected as a feature in the Medical Laboratory Professionals Association of Ontario (MLPAO) magazine, ADVOCATE. Medical laboratory professionals are integral to many aspects of Canadian Blood Services’ work, supporting the vein-to-vein continuum of Canada’s Biological Lifeline.
The MLPAO’s Fall edition aims to focus on sharing highly technical, research-related stories from the field. It is distributed directly to 4,200 medical laboratory professionals including both medical laboratory technologists and medical laboratory assistants/technicians who are members of the MLPAO.
Following an invitation to contribute, members of the SDL alongside colleagues across multiple innovation and portfolio management teams, collaborated to prepare a spotlight of the laboratory’s work. This article marks an important milestone in raising awareness of the SDL’s role within the broader medical laboratory community.
An excerpt from the feature emphasizes the SDL team’s important contributions to safeguarding, engaging and improving Canada’s blood system:
“In addition to surveillance and discovery endeavors, the SDL aims to provide a space for training in the high complexity and high throughput processes implemented in hemosurveillance. Team members teach and mentor technologists, undergraduate and graduate students, residents, and fellows.
A key objective being the advancement of scientific and educational outreach, while promoting the exchange of information and collaboration at the provincial, national, and international level, thereby improving early identification and response to emerging threats.”
Congratulations to SDL team members on this well-deserved recognition. If you’re a member of MLPAO, we encourage you to look for the full article in your copy of the Fall magazine! If you’re not a member of MLPAO, we encourage you to sign up for the Research and Education Round Up newsletter, a monthly e-news issued by Canadian Blood Services sharing all the latest information from our research and education network – including updates on activities from laboratories like the SDL!
