Learning objectives

This year’s symposium will focus on rural/small hospital development and implementation of massive hemorrhage protocols (MHPs) as well as optimizing patient care prior to transfer.

  1. Define steps to take to develop a tailored and comprehensive MHP for their rural hospitals based on the Ontario Massive Hemorrhage Protocol Recommendations.
  2. Discuss the challenges and mitigation strategies that rural hospitals might encounter and use when implementing, maintaining, and performing MHP.
  3. Articulate the significance of pre-hospital care and pre-transfer for transfusion support for rural hospitals in the setting of a massive hemorrhage.
